Staff Attorney, New York Legal Assistance Group
Florida Hoxha is a public interest attorney working for the New York Legal Assistance Group, a civil legal services organization providing pro-bono services to New Yorkers who most need it. There, she works in the Consumer Protection Unit assisting clients facing breach of contract actions, foreclosure actions, and assisting clients to negotiate with financial institutions.
Florida has always been interested in helping others. While at Emory University, one of her most impactful experiences was working with incarcerated women serving life in prison. This work inspired her to pursue law school, where she continued to work with incarcerated populations. In law school, she successfully petitioned then Governor Cuomo to grant a commutation of a sentence, securing the release of a man who was serving a long sentence because of unjust criminal laws.
After law school, she clerked with New York City’s Administrative Court, getting a birds-eye view of the laws and principals that govern the inner workings of New York City. Thereafter, she worked at the Small Business Administration on pandemic related loans, which were the lifeline to millions of small businesses in America.
